Red Sox GM Ben Cherington told reporters that his team's Opening Day roster is close to being finalized, with an expectation that it likely will be set by the time the Red Sox leave their spring training home of Fort Myers on Monday for an exhibition game against the Nationals in Washington, DC, on Tuesday. That said, he could not say with certainty that the 25-man roster will be set by then, in part because the Sox continue to explore the trade market as players become available as teams make their final roster decisions.
